As the truck union members staged a protest demanding arrest of Gurbachan Singh Baba and his accomplices, local traders kept the market closed as a mark of support to the protesters.

As the protesters resorted to a road blockade, looking at the gravity of the situation the civil as well police administration, including deputy commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav and Bathinda SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, rushed the spot. Mansa SSP, Bikrampal Singh Bhatti also reached the spot. Heavy police force was deployed in the town.

A truck union member, Sukhwinder Singh Chhinda, a resident of Kutiwal Khurd village, in Mansa was allegedly crushed to death under a truck by Baba and his accomplices following a clash over loading of trucks in Kharag Singh Wala village near Maur, Mansa district, on May 2. It was only after the Mansa SSP assured protesters that the accused would be arrested soon that they called off the protest.
