Protesting farmers call off agitation

A meeting of the BKU delegation was held with the secretary (power), where all the demands of farmers were discussed in length.

During the parleys, the secretary, power, Anirudh Tiwari promised the farmers eight-hour regular supply to farmers during paddy season, He also assured them that the department would take up the matter with the chief minister about reduction of fee for new tubewell connections.

The BKU delegation was also provided assurance by the government that it would consider releasing tubewell connections to small and marginal farmers having less than 2.5 acres land on priority basis.

As the issue of release of 70,000 new tubewell connection has been stayed by the Green Tribunal, thus the Punjab government can't make any promise on this issue.

Farmers were holding an agitation since May 26 outside the PSPCL headquarters.On Monday, they had blocked the power corporation entry gates, which forced the government to hold meeting with protesters.
