The fee structure, for the new session 2016-17, for Panjab University campus hostels may undergo changes that have been recommended by the committee that is incharge of updating the handbook of hostel rules.

This committee was constituted by PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover.

As per the proposal, hostellers will have to pay a minimum of Rs 1,000 as penalty for keeping any kind of electrical appliance including heaters, air conditioners, induction cookers, electric rods, table fans and television in rooms.

The penalty for the same is Rs 500 as of now.

The recommendations submitted by the committee will be tabled at the syndicate meeting scheduled for February 26. Some of the changes suggested are revising the entire fee structure including electricity bill, laundry charges, celebration funds, routine hostel maintenance, daily charges for final year foreign students, car parking charges and the general hostel administrative charges, among others.

At present, hostellers pay Rs 350 per month for electricity while proposed recommendations state that the bill will be increased to Rs 380. Car parking charges (subject to availability) will increase from R s300 to rs 500, per month while the laundry and lift maintenance charges will increase by Rs 5.
