She was talking to media persons after inaugurating the sub-junior hockey championship here. She said the Congress MPs were not raising the genuine issues of the state in the parliament.

"Instead of helping me raise issues of concern to the state, they put obstacles. They shout in the parliament only to get media attention," said Harsimrat.

When asked what was the attitude and response of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh towards Punjab government's demands, she said: "Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal (her father-in-law) meets the prime minister about the state's demands. He can answer this question better."

She dismissed the allegations of the Congress that the ruling alliance in the state had diverted the central funds. Harsimrat said the state government had never misused the central funds. "Some of the funds might have lapsed," she said.

Harsimrat informed that Punjab contributes more than 60% of the grain produced in the country and this year the state has produced a record wheat crop. "Despite this the union government has made no arrangement to store this crop," she said.

She warned that the groundwater level in the state was going down alarmingly. "A report by World Health Organisation (WHO) says that the state would become a desert in next 20 years."

Harsimrat said her husband (deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal) had adopted kabaddi while she had decided to adopt hockey. She said she would make all-out efforts to promote the game in the state.
She later paid obeisance at the Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. She was presented siropa (robe of honour) at the gurdwara.
