Addressing the media on Sunday here, Bhushan said Punjab has faced tough times earlier but the situation in the state had never worsened to a level where the government had lost the confidence of all sections of people. “Resignation of the state government and immediate assembly elections were necessary,” he said.

The ruling party had made religion a political tool and those in the government were involved in drug trade and corruption, the leading lawyer claimed. He accused the government of letting a wave of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib become a tide and then blaming it on foreign agencies instead of investigating thoroughly. “Since people doubt the government’s intentions, any inquiry by a state agency can’t be trusted. An independent commission should take over the case,” Bhushan said.

He said Punjab required a political alternative but neither the Congress nor the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was that option. “The high-command culture of the SAD, BJP and Congress has gripped the AAP as well and the party has given up its founding principles,” claimed the ousted AAP leader.
