In an incident reminiscent of a Bollywood flick ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, a village sarpanch came to the rescue of a seven-year-old dumb girl, who was lost for three days.
The sarpanch not only kept her in his home for three days, but also took her to nearby villages to trace her parents. On Sunday morning, the parents of the girl were traced and the police have handed over the girl to them.
Neha, a resident of Maskeen Nagar, Bhaura Colony, had gone missing while playing outside the house on February 11 and reached Bonkar Dogra village.
Kashmiri Lal, village sarpanch, said she found her sobbing outside Gurudwara Sahib, when people have spotted her. He took the girl to his home. Later, he also took the girl to his brother’s home, to play with children of her age group.
“I asked her about her name and address, but she was unable to utter a word. It had turned dark, so I decided to take her to home,” said Kashmiri Lal.
“The girl used sign language to convey, but it was tough for us to understand. I asked her to show directions of her village and followed her. We went many villages to trace her parents, but to no avail,” he added.
On Sunday, the police finally traced her parents and handed over the girl to them. Dalip Kumar of Maskeen Nagar, Bhaura Colony, said his daughter is dumb from birth. The family hails from Bihar.
