Learning a lesson from its past mistakes, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has started supplying textbooks well in advance for the government school students. For the last three years, the board was not able to supply the books before the commencement of new sessions.
The book supply process started on Monday. The three blocks, where the supply was initiated, are Samrala 1, Samrala 2 and Macchiwara.
The PSEB Ludhiana depot has received 90 per cent textbooks from the board.
Talking to Hindustan Times, PSEB's Ludhiana depot manager Baljinder Singh said, "We have received 90 per cent of the textbooks from the board and we started supplying these from Monday. The idea is to provide textbooks to the students before the commencement of the new academic session. The board has directed us to send the textbooks to government schools till March 25."
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) office had demanded of 3.5 lakh textbooks from the board. Only 10 per cent supply is remaining. The textbooks will be provided to the SC students from Class 1 to 10 of government schools.
A government school principal, who wished his name not to be published, said, "For the last three years, the schools had been receiving the textbooks in May or after July. This time the board is expected to send the textbooks well before the session starts. This will prove very helpful for students as having textbooks from Day 1 enables the teachers to start the syllabus without any delay. In the past, we had been arranging the books from the senior students."
