Punjab to provide free coaching to meritorious students for higher education

The state government will provide free coaching for students studying in Senior Secondary Residential School for the Meritorious. Under this new programme, these students are likely to be benefitted as they will get free coaching for higher education after Class-12.

As per the recommendations of a committee named 'Society for Promotion Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab', which is formed by the Punjab government, tenders have been floated and proposals have been sought from leading coaching institutes of the country.

The students should be trained for institutes such as IIT, JEE-IIT, AIIMS, NIT, BITS Pilani, AFMC Pune, CA, law, CLAT, besides other courses along with all medical and engineering institutes successfully running in the state.

Additional deputy commissioner (development) Supreet Singh Gulati informed that the Punjab government had decided to provide free coaching for higher education to all students studying in these schools.

He said the coaching classes would be held 4 pm to 7 pm daily. He said that at present the teachers themselves had been holding coaching classes for two hours daily.

School principal Anup Kumar Passi informed that out of 1,000 students selected under the "Udaan" project of the central government, three students had been selected from their school. He added that 75 school students were also participating in the Inspire Programme underway at the Gurusar Sudhar village of the district.
