Punjab will provide financial help for the setting up of a super-speciality SAARC hospital in Amritsar to facilitate patients from member countries avail world-class healthcare facility.

Announcing this here on Monday, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said that the hospital, besides providing quality treatment, will also help developing people to people contact, thus boosting mutual trust and goodwill in the region.

Badal, who was speaking on the sidelines of the second day of the mega health camp organised in Badal village here, said the state government will provide financial support to the SAARC Surgical Care Society in this regard.

Stating that the government will soon provide land for the purpose, Badal said Amritsar was selected for the hospital as a good air connectivity of the city will pave way for hassle-free movement of both patients and doctors from different parts of the world.

He also expressed hope that renowned medicos from SAARC countries will offer their services at this hospital, which aims to provide cheap and quality treatment to the needy. Badal also called for setting up of such hospitals in all SAARC countries.

The chief minister said proper record of the patients registered in the health camp will be maintained and these who have been referred for further diagnose and treatment will be provided the required financial help.

He also said the sate government was making efforts to rope in globally renowned doctors for such camps. Badal said for providing world class healthcare facilities to the people, a Rs 350-crore project has been initiated to upgrade infrastructure in government hospitals.
