On the second day of his two-day visit to Punjab on Friday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi reached out to farmers whose cotton crop has been hit by the whitefly attack.
Daring the ruling Badals in their bastion, Bathinda, Rahul said they were afraid to come amid people fearing their wrath.
Rahul started his day by paying obeisance at Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo where he participated in prayer and had langar.
He met the family of suicide victim Jagdev Singh at Bhagwangarh (Bhukianwali) village and from there embarked on an 8-kilometre-long padyatra to Mallwala and Manwala villages, visiting farmers’ families on the way.
Addressing the people at Mallwala village, he said everything in Punjab is being controlled by the Badals. “It is not the fault of the youth who have been hooked on to drugs, as the ruling party and the government are entirely responsible for the total breakdown of law and order machinery in the state,” he said.
Flanked by Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, he said there might have been differences among the state party leadership but the leaders had now promised to work in unison for the betterment of Punjab. He went on to declare that the Congress would form the next government in Punjab.
