Public works department (PWD) minister Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon inaugurated the railway overbridge.

With its opening, commuters can travel between Dugri chowk adjoining Canal Bridge and Gill Road along canal.

The work on another railway overbridge on the road from canal bridge of BRS Nagar to canal bridge of Pakhowal Road is still pending.

Besides, the work on several other flyovers under the southern bypass project (Ferozepur Road Ludhiana to Doraha) is under progress.

The project that was started in 2009 is important for commuters, as it will reduce travelling time for people coming from Moga, Ferozepur and heading towards Khanna, Delhi and Patiala.

Dhillon assured that the entire project that costing 328 crore will be completed by December 31.

“We will take some more time to complete the project. Opening of this bridge will provide relief from traffic EARLIER, THE ROAD WAS BLOCKED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION WORK. I AM HAPPY WITH OPENING OF NEWLY-CONSTRUCTED OVERBRIDGE AS I CAN COMMUTE THROUGH THIS ROUTE NOW. INDERJIT SINGH, a commuter snarls,” he said.

Meanwhile, the commuters expressed happiness over the opening of railway overbridge. However, the street lights have not been installed on the flyover, while the work on service lanes on both sides of overbridge is also pending.

Inderjit Singh, a commuter, said, “Earlier, the road was blocked due to construction work of the project. I am happy with opening of newly-constructed, overbridge as can now commute through this route after longtime.”
