Though the rainy season has ended, the building and road (B&R) branch of the MC has failed to lay patches to fill the potholes as per their claims. MC has geared up for the smart city project, but internal roads of various areas are still crying for attention.
However, the MC is taking initiative to carpet some major roads, no attention is being paid towards internal roads of various colonies, including Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Dugri, Model Town, Janta Nagar, Giaspura, Dhandari, Deep Colony and Focal Point among others that are crying for attention.
Residents claimed that the development is on back foot in these areas. They have been demanding repair of roads, but all in vain. They claimed that the MC has only carpeted or repaired roads in some selected areas.
Ramesh Srivastav, a resident of Dugri, “The civic body has only filled some potholes, which have started wearing out. We dreamt of a smart city, but the officials concerned are not paying attention towards the potholes and broken roads. At least, patch work should be done at the earliest.”
YK Yadav, a resident said, “The condition of roads in Dhandari and Focal point is too bad. It seems the civic body does not pay attention towards these areas. The condition of roads in Deep Colony, Durga Colony and other areas in or adjoining Dhandari are waiting for development. Even the representatives of the public have failed to raise their issues in the official meetings.”

{{/usCountry}}Sher Singh, former president of the Northern Railway Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Ludhiana, said, “The condition of street number 7 of New Janta Nagar is very pitiable as it was carpeted 5-6 years back. I have complained to MC but nothing has been done. Moreover, speed breakers need to be set up to reduce speed of rashly-driven vehicles that cause mishaps.”
MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal said, “Potholes repair work is going on and will continue till December 15. Even staff is working on Saturdays. As we have tendered 107-km premix road to a private contractor. I assure that the work will be completed within next two months.”
