A case under Sections 498 A and 494 of the IPC (domestic violence and harassment for dowry) was registered against SHO Manjit Singh on Saturday in Mansa after woman constable Gurpreet Kaur accused him of sexual exploitation. Manjit Singh, who is posted in Rampura Phul in Bathinda, has been absconding since then.
A couple of months ago, Gurpreet had alleged that the SHO had been sexually exploiting her when both of them were posted at Budhlada.
"When I asked for marriage, he suggested that we both convert to Islam and then marry as he was already married. We did that and got married. But, since then he has not treated me as a wife and has been threatening me and my family," alleged Gurpreet. She has the documents showing that the two converted to Islam and married.
Head of the Women's Cell Jaswinder Kaur, who has been investigating the case, acknowledged that an FIR has been finally registered. "After continuous media coverage senior officials in the police department set up a special investigation team under the Fazilka police to inquire into the case. Finally, the FIR has been lodged and we will arrest the SHO very soon."
Gurpreet, whose late father had also served in the state police, however, is not satisfied with the response from her own department. "This is a false FIR as he has never harassed me for dowry. I want that the police should register an FIR against him for rape, threat to life and fraud. They have not even asked me to undergo medical test to verify the rape claims."

Any further cases can only be registered under the guidance and orders of the court."
