The lady belonging to Phillipines came to meet her in laws at Malerkotla with complaints of heavy and prolonged periods for the last few months.

On sonography she was diagnosed to have bulky uterus with multiple fibroids.

Dr Rama Sofat and Dr Amit Sofat who operated the lady told that the uterus and her fibroids along with the ovaries were removed by key hole surgery, and this procedure is called total laproscopic Hysterctomy.

The main advantages of this procedure are less bleeding, less pain, an early recovery and lesser hospital stay, says Dr Amit.

Dr Amit said that only a few centres in Punjab are doing Total Laproscopic Hystrectomy.

It is important to mention that removal of uterus is the most commonly perrformed surgery in the USA to the tune of 600,000 surgeries every year.

Even in the USA the incidence of Total Laproscopic Hystrectomy is only about 12% and mainly in 88% cases the uterus is removed by open surgery or by vaginal route.

He said that main advantage of this surgery is that patient could resume the normal life after 7-10 days.
