Claiming that the Congress meted out a step-motherly treatment to Punjab and surrendered its rights, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday said he would make any sacrifice to save the state’s water.
“Punjab is fully prepared for a sustained democratic and peaceful fight for justice over the critical state issues having a bearing on future generations,” Sukhbir said after paying obeisance to Sant Ram Giarvi Waley on his seventh death anniversary function at Daudhar in the district.
Maintaining that the state does not have a single drop of water to share, the deputy CM said there is no question of Punjab accepting or implementing any decision which deprives them of their right under the riparian principle.
He said the budget is development-oriented, visionary and progressive and it would go a long way in ensuring an all-round development of all sectors. The insurance cover extended to 11 lakh farmers under the Bhagat Puran Singh Bima Yojana and setting up a Kisan Vikas Chamber at Mohali would do wonders for the farming community, he said.
Interest-free crop loan up to Rs 50,000 to farmers and launching the provident fund-compensation scheme for them would certainly reduce cases of farmer suicides, he added.
