The union members handed over a memorandum in this regard to Dr Jaspal Singh, vice-chancellor of the university on Monday.

In its recent syndicate meeting, the university authorities have approved two years' hike in the post-retirement age of the teachers from earlier 63 years to 65 years.

Meanwhile, the existing pattern granted three years' extension up to 63 years of age after retirement of teachers at the age of 60.

However, with implementation of the fresh norm, extension will be give to retired employee in two stages--first for three years and then for two years.

Inderjeet Singh, president of PURSA, said that the decision would surely pose threat to the careers of research scholars and those candidate who have cleared the UGC NET as it would be hard for them to get jobs in the university campus.
