As the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) have given green signal for the development of parks, lifting of garbage and construction of roads in Maharishi Valmik Nagar, the residents urged the officials concerned to take steps before the start of rainy season.
HT has also highlighted the pathetic condition of roads, parks and sanitation in the area in its earlier report.
Now, the LIT has approved an estimate of around Rs 60 lakh for the development of the parks of F Block of the area. Besides, LIT has approved estimate for recarpeting of roads of Maharishi Valmik Nagar.
This area, along with other colonies, has been waiting for development for more than one year, because earlier this colony, along with other four colonies, was transferred to MC in 2013, but later the process was stalled. These colonies were later shifted to the LIT in January 2014 on the orders of the state government.
Satish Thaman, member of the District Ludhiana West SubDivision Grievances Redressal Committee, said, “I appreciate the LIT for giving approval for the development works in the area. These works have been lying pending for more than a year. But the of ficials should start the works at the earliest, as the rainy season is also around the corner and it might delay the work.”
“I have not been informed about when the work will start. However, these days garbage is not being lifted properly, and the roads have got many potholes,” Thaman said.

{{/usCountry}}A resident, Varun, said, “We are very thankful to the LIT for approving the estimate for starting the required work. We have already faced too much harassment, so the authorities should start work at the earliest.”
LIT executive engineer Sukhbir Jakhar could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
When contacted, LIT sub-divisional officer Jaswinder Singh said after chairperson’s approval, the estimates have been forwarded to the state government for approval. “As soon as we get nod from the government, work will be started,” he said.
