Residents raised question over the carpeting of road from Daba Road to Giaspura. They said the carpeting was being done in an improper way, which may lead to early damage of this road.

The residents claimed that the road was being carpeted without cleaning dust from the road, and the tack coat was not being laid in a right way.

Residents also claimed that when they raised objection none of the MC official was present there, while the staff of contractor was carpeting the road. Residents demanded an inquiry into the quality of road being constructed, as they suspected that the road will get damaged soon.

A resident, Simratpal Singh Kalsi said, “It is total wastage of money as the officials concerned don't pay attention when the roads are carpeted. The residents were waiting for carpeting of this road since long, and now it is being carpeted without cleaning the dust from road. Even no MC engineer was present there during carpeting.”

An RTI activist, Arvind Sharma said that they have complained about it to the higher authorities. “The roads are just carpeted for formality, as the officials hesitate to visit to check road work. Even the tack coat work was not being done properly due to which the layers of premix can get damaged. It is a serious matter about which the authorities of building and roads branch have turned a blind eye,” he alleged.

“We demanded the MC commissioner to look into the matter, and take required steps. The MC should ensure presence of official concerned during carpeting or construction work on roads,” the residents said.

MC executive engineer Karamjeet Singh denied the allegations. He said that the junior engineer was present there. However, he assured that he would inspect the carpeting work on this road.
