Access to clean water is a necessity and a right of citizens. However, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) seems to have ignored 'clean' water from its supplies. The water it supplies to more than 15,000 residents in Globe Colony, Chota Sai Pur, Shashi Nagar and Kailash Nagar is contaminated and contains sand particles. This has been continuing for more than three months now.

Despite residents giving several petitions to MC officials, no action has been taken to supply clean water.

The MC had installed a tube well in Globe Colony to supply water to these areas. However, the pump has not been functioning for the last three months.

Most residents of these colonies have been taking drinking water from houses, which have their submersible pumps. Others boil the water for drinking and are forced to use the unclean water for other routine activities like bathing, washing etc.

Residents said that they had also contacted their MLA KD Bhandari (Jalandhar North, BJP) and the area councilor, with no fruitful results.

Officials had assured residents that they would install a tube well, but necessary action is still pending.
