Rich Punjabi culture showcased at Mela Tiyan Da

In an effort to inculcate high traditional values among the younger generations and to encourage their interest in Punjabi culture, a colourful and meticulously arranged 'Mela Tiyan Da' was organised at Nurpur Sethan village, 10 km from here on Saturday evening.

The village was visited by innumerable men and women, both young and old, in four-wheelers, two-wheelers, bull carts or by foot and even rain failed to dampen their spirits. The audiences were witness to splendid performances by various participants who had come from far-flung areas to display their art at the annual fair organised by Youth Welfare Club of the village.

The events organised on the occasion included Punjabi folk dance, Bhangra, Giddha, Mehndi competition, open quiz on Punjabi culture and its traditional values, comedy, Punjabi songs, Trinjan, Jaggo, choerography, Jhumar, Peeng and Charkha Katna.

Punjabi film artistes Harinder Bhullar and Gurnam Sidhu entertained the audience with their satires played the role of stage anchors with elan.

Punjabi singer Satwinder Bugga, winner of 'Voice of Punjab' title Ananpal Billa and various artistes from neighouring districts besides from Jammu and Kashmir enthralled the audience.

Club president Harcharan Singh, patron Ranjit Singh and Gurwinder Singh played a pivotal role in ensuring that the event was a success.
