Local MLA Ashwani Sharma's may have advised the residents to keep the newly-built roads pothole-free, but his own party laid little heed to his words recently during the visit of new state BJP president Kamal Sharma.
Roads were dug at many places to raise gates to welcome Sharma and no one from the administration objected to the defacement for obvious reasons.
Roads also bear the brunt during the religious functions, when such gates are erected in large number across the town. The most favoured areas for political and religious activities are Ram Lila ground, Dhangu Road and Patel Nagar. The residents living near Ram Lila ground have for long been complaining about the noise pollution. "Nobody is bothered about our inconvenience we face almost everyday," rued Sanjeev Puri, resident of an area near Ram Lila ground.
"In exam days, we have to send our wards to our relatives' house as it becomes near impossible to study because of the noise coming from loud speakers," said Puri. He said roads are dug up every now and then for erecting hoardings and welcome gates.
The DC, who is looking after the Pathankot municipal corporation, was not available for comments. SDM Sukhmandar Singh said he didn't look after the corporation matters. MC acting assistant commissioner SK Saini could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
