Three accused involved in the land grab case of granddaughter of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the erstwhile ruler of Patiala, got anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana high court.
However, the bail application of 10 accused was rejected by a Patiala court on Thursday. The high court granted bail to Charan Singh, Ranjit Singh and Manjit Singh, all residents of Patiala, who were working as domestic helps of the royal family.
There are 25 accused in the case who allegedly sold a property of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Captain Amarinder Singh’s cousin, Nalini. While eight accused are from Punjab, others are natives of Himachal Pradesh.
Complainant Nalini, a resident of Gopalpur village in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, alleged that the kingpin of land mafia Surinder Kumar Sood prepared fake documents of the property, which was in the possession of her grandmother Yashoda Devi.
As per the family tree, Nalini is the daughter of Kanwar Kumad Inder Singh, son of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.
According to the first information report (FIR) registered at the Sadar police station in Patiala, Nalini first approached the court in 2003 and the accused were not able to sell the property. However, the accused prepared fake documents of the property in Patiala and managed to sell it later.
After knowing that the accused had sold off the property, the Nalini approached the Patiala police and a case was registered against 25 persons on 22 June, 2015, under Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
