Rs 15-lakh jewellery missing from bank locker

Gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh was found missing from a locker of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dharampura, under mysterious circumstances.

Gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh was found missing from a locker of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dharampura, under mysterious circumstances.

The locker holder accused bank employees of embezzlement. He has also filed a complaint with the police commissioner of division no. 6, bank manager and the zonal office of the bank. The police have initiated a probe in the matter.

The victim, Daljit Singh of Sikandari road, Khud Mohalla, is a garment trader. According to Daljit Singh, he and his wife Arvinder Kaur, holds a joint locker in the Dharampura branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce for the past four years.

They had stored nearly 500 gm of gold jewellery in the locker. It was an old locker and the key that was handed over to them was rusted.

He had operated the locker last time in June 2010. He said that he had stored a gold bangle in the locker at that time.

"I went to the bank on June 26 to store gold ornaments in the locker, but was shocked to see our gold jewellery missing from the locker. I immediately informed the branch manager and sounded the police control room, but no one took action," Daljit Singh alleged.

According to inspector Anil Bhanot, SHO of division no. 5 police station, the police have written to the bank to priovide the records regarding the locker. The police would take action after completion of the probe.
