Interestingly, the incident occurred just 100 meters away from the Naushera police post, raising many a question mark on the Batala police.

According to the information available, some unidentified persons arrived at the ATM, which was locked, at around 2 am, broke the locks of the shutter and later sprayed paint on the CCTV camera in the ATM.

The accused then cut the chest of the ATM with the help of gas cutter and decamped with Rs 3,92,700.

On Friday morning, some residents noticed the broken locks of the ATM and informed the branch manager, Varinder Kumar, who subsequently informed the police.

Senior superintendent of police, Batala, Inderbir Singh, was not available for comments in spite of repeated attempts.
Meanwhile SHO, Sekhwan police station, Tersem Singh told that on the statement of
Kumar, the police had registered a case under sections 380, 457, 427 of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified persons. He told that the police had sounded a red-alert in the entire area and has assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
