Rs 9 lakh seized during special checking

The static surveillance team on Thursday recovered about9 lakh from several people during a special checking on Paragpur highway.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Cantonment Tejvir Singh informed that Rs 6 lakh was recovered from Kishan, a resident of Ludhiana, Rs 1 lakh from Deepak of Jalandhar and 1.05 lakh from Kushal of Paniar village in Gurdaspur while 1.80 lakh was recovered from Shiv Kumar which has been returned to him after he showed the documents.

The ACP said the money was in police custody and if the persons concerned failed to produce documents in a time-bound manner, it would be handed over to the income tax department.

Another police team along with the static surveillance team held a special checking on Shahpur Road and seized 4.30 lakh and 1,100 British pounds from Lehmber Singh Johal of Jandiala and 3.20 lakh from Anil Kumar of Jalandhar.
