A Right to Information Act activist, Dev Ashish Bhattacharya, has sought an inquiry into the alleged delay in ferrying state chief secretary Sudripto Roy in a helicopter to Chandigarh after he suffered a brain stroke in October last year.
In a written communiqué to chief minister Virbhadra Singh, Bhattacharya has alleged it was the inability of doctors at the Indira Gandhi Medical College to provide Roy post mild stroke treatment and problems in transporting him that led to further complications in his condition.
“On October 10, 2013 Roy was rushed to the hospital where doctors detected a mild brain stroke and he was later referred to PGI, Chandigarh. He was allowed to use the state chopper to go there. However, after reaching Tara Devi the copter’s pilot decided to return, citing bad weather.
After that Roy took an ambulance to PGI and arrived there at 9.10 pm. At around 12.30am on October 11 he suffered a major stroke, “ Bhattacharya said.
He added the weather was suitable enough for the flight to continue. He also sought a probe into the reasons why the hospital’s doctors could not begin treatment after they found he had had an attack of mild brain stroke.
