Although BJP used to have its office in the complex of Shitla Mata Temple in Mai Heera Gate locality for more than past 50 years, but it had to shut off its office overnight in August this year, when a Congress leader lodged complaint with Election Commission (EC) against BJP for running its political office from the complex of religious place violating the EC norms.

Senior alliance partner SAD could not open its permanent office in the district and depended on the temporary party office, only during assembly or Parliament polls.

Currently, SAD uses the office of the chairman of district planning committee, the post held by district president of SAD Gurcharan Singh Channi for small meetings and for big meetings SGPC run gurdwaras are being used.

Although, both SAD and BJP were allotted plots of four kanals each in posh area of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Surya Enclave respectively at throwaway prices by Jalandhar Improvement Trust, a few years back, but work on the construction of building is yet to begin.

District chief of BJP, Subhash Sood, without divulging the reasons of closing down its old office, said, "Soon construction of party's new office will begin in Surya Enclave."

Denying using mayor's official residence for party activities, he said, "In the absence of party office, we hold party meetings in Community Cetnre in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar."

SAD's district president Gurcharan Singh Channi said he was not sure whether the party has been allotted land or not, as he had no official document for the same.

Congress has its full-fledged party office in Rajinder Nagar, BSP at Khurla Kingra and even PPP has its lavish office in Model Town to organise the party activities.
