SAD seeks CBI inquiry into ‘false’ cases against party workers

Alleging that the Congress government in the state was “punishing” people who had voted against the party in the assembly polls by registering criminal cases with non-bailable Sections against them, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday ‘paraded’ some such victims before the media.

“Many false have come to the notice of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal during his ‘Jabar Virdohi Lehar’ visit to Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency recently,” said SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, claiming that 58 cases of non-bailable offences had been registered against SAD workers.

“We will move court, seeking that the cases be handed over to the CBI,” he said, alleging that the Punjab Police was playing a partisan role.

Majithia said in Tarn Taran, local MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki had forcibly taken possession of 16 canals belonging to an army jawan with the help of goons from the Congress.

Former minister Sucha Singh Langah said it was shameful that Dera Baba Nanak legislator Sukhi Randhawa was demanding proof of atrocities when 21 false and politically motivated non-bailable cases, including seven attempt to murder cases, had been registered in the constituency.

Langah alleged that a victim of police excesses Pargat Singh committed suicide and left behind a suicide note that he was drastic step because of threats from Gurmeet Singh Pahra, father of Congress MLA Barinderjeet Singh Pahra.
