There seems to be no end to the controversy over the land allotted to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) at Dharamshala as a senior bureaucrat, additional chief secretary (ACS) Deepak Sanan, on Friday sent a reminder to government asking to drop charges against him.
Two months ago, Sanan had written to the government to drop charges against. The government had chargesheeted Sanan for allotting the land to the HPCA during the period when he was holding the charge of principal secretary (revenue). Sanan is now posted as additional chief secretary (forests), environment and science and technology.
His move came after the Union department of personnel and training had denied prosecution sanction against him. The Union government in correspondence to the state had denied permission to prosecute him.
On April 30 last year, the state government wrote to the department of personnel and training seeking prosecution sanction against Sanan under Sections 13 (1) (d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
A first information report was registered against Sanan and IAS official Ajay Sharma on August 1, 2013, by state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau in Dharamshala.
In the chargesheet, Sanan had been accused of misusing his official position to issue a no objection certificate (NOC) for the commercial use of land and to construct a high-end hotel on the land leased out to the HPCA.
