Sarabjit's daughter donates Rs 1 lakh on father's death anniversary

Daughter of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner who died in Pakistan following a brutal assault by other inmates of a high-security jail last year, today donated Rs one lakh to a charity organisation marking her father's first death anniversary.

"My father always wanted to open an school for children. On his first death anniversary, I tried to fulfil his dreams by offering Rs one lakh to 'Missionary of Charity' here which works for orphans and poor children," Swapandeep Kaur, in a statement issued here said.

"I am hopeful that my father's departed soul would be happy with this move as it is a small step towards his dream work," Kaur said.

Sarabjit died of cardiac arrest in a Lahore hospital on May 2 last year after being comatose for nearly a week following a brutal assault by other inmates of Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Sarabjit was convicted of alleged involvement in a string of bomb attacks in Punjab province in Pakistan that killed 14 people in 1990 and spent about 22 years in Pakistani prisons.
