SC Commission takes serious view of Bhagana incident

National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken a serious view of an issue at village Bhagana in Hisar district of Haryana where following a land dispute Dalits were allegedly forced to migrate from the village.

National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken a serious view of an issue at village Bhagana in Hisar district of Haryana where following a land dispute Dalits were allegedly forced to migrate from the village.

"Some people of upper cast had committed atrocities on theDalit community in Bhagana village and many families have migrated to Delhi and sitting on a sit in at Jantar Mantar for the last several months," Ishwar Singh, member of the Commission said here today.

He said few months back on March 25, four SC girls of the village were gangraped which created insecurity among the Dalit community there.

Singh said he had written a letter to Chief Secretary, Haryana in this regard for setting up a special investigation team consisting of Deputy Commissioner Hisar and two IPS officers, adding that, he would personally visit Bhagana village on June 23.

Observing that atrocities on Dalits had increased in Haryana, Singh said 257 FIRs of atrocities against Dalits were lodged in the state in 2013 while 146 were sent in the court for action.

Singh said around 10,000 vacancies of SC candidates were lying vacant in various government officers but the backlog was not filled so far.
