The role of doctors who conducted the autopsy will also be examined. The teenager had hanged self from a tree near his house on Saturday after police had rounded him up in connection with a robbery in the neighbourhood.

On Monday, commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka reached out to the victim's family. Harpal Singh, father of Harjit Singh, had approached the commission, alleging that the police had subjected his son to third-degree torture at the behest of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor. "The police, politicians, and doctors connived to erase the injury marks from the body," he said.

Verka confirmed that he had ordered an investigatation. Harpal Singh has told him that when his son returned from the police station, he was frightened visibly. "He told the family about the torture and, later, went to the field and committed suicide," he further said.
