He said, this year Rs 2.99 crore would be spent on apple rejuvenation scheme in the district. He said the department had set a target to cover 1,250 hectares under this scheme in the district.

The horticulture department would give financial assistance to farmers for uprooting maximum 250 apple plants in their old orchards and re-plantation of 500 new ones on the same place.

He said, "Orchardists are advised to use improved varieties of apple nursery for re-plantation in their orchard, which would fetch them good return in future."

Rana said the department would provide a maximum subsidy of Rs 84,375 for rejuvenation of apple orchards to each farmer and they were advised to contact their horticulture department concerned for reaping the benefit of the scheme.

Farmers of Kullu district are also happy with the commencement of that scheme.

An orchardist of Kullu, Nakul Khullar, said the scheme would help small and marginal apple orchardists of the district to rejuvenate their orchards with the help of the state government, as they could not afford the expenditure due to financial crunch.
