A local school came under the scanner of the deputy commissioner (DC) on Tuesday for reportedly administering corporal punishment to students of Classes 9 and 10.
DC Anindita Mitra issued a warning letter to JSFH Khalsa Senior Secondary School after receiving a preliminary report from district education officer (DEO) Kulwant Singh regarding the incident. Mitra also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and sent a report to the director general of school education, Punjab.
A few students of Classes 9 and 10 of the school were reportedly administered corporal punishment and some of them were even found sweeping the school's staircase.
After a few electronic media representatives reported the matter to the administration, the DC asked the DEO to investigate the matter by visiting the school.
Talking to Hindustan Times, the DC said that the DEO had mentioned only about students sweeping the staircase in his preliminary report and details about corporal punishment would be cleared only after a detailed inquiry was complete.
