A month after the state education department issued a show-cause notice to school heads for poor Class-12 results, the department has pulled them up for not being worried about their performance, while directing all deputy directors to chair meetings of school heads in their respective districts.
The government in May had issued show-cause notices to 120 schools scoring less than 30% result in Class 12 to explain why their teachers should not be transferred. However, it is yet to act against poor-performing schools or fix accountability for the bad results.
At a meeting held at Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Lalpani, Shimla, recently, additional chief secretary (education) PC Dhiman observed that it was strange that school heads were not worried about their bad results. He directed all education department officials to ensure over 50% passing results in the current session.
Though about 69% students passed the Class-12 exams, many schools performed poorly. Sources in the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education said at 20 schools, all students failed in Class 12 despite having full teacher strength.
According to the data provided by the board of the total 1,717 senior secondary schools in the state only 225 had 100% pass percentage, while 345 had below 50% result of which 120 had below 30% results. Of the 20 schools where all students failed, seven are in Kangra and five in Shimla district.
