The interrogation of Navdeep revealed that he was in touch with a local gang and the illegal .12-bore countrymade weapon used by him was made locally by a gas welder, Harjeet Singh. Such weapons are usually procured from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Harjeet Singh, who used to make countrymade pistols for various gangs, has also been arrested.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, Amritsar (rural) SSP SPS Parmar said, “This is a major breakthrough. It is for the first time that we have come across an illegal arms manufacturer in this area. There are some more people involved. We are conducting raids to nab them. Navdeep was not only involved in the shooting, but was also in touch with a gang of snatchers.”

The incident had taken everyone by surprise as firing involving school students had not been heard of before.
