Securitymen take bullets, foil bank robbery

A robbery was foiled at the Kahnor village branch of the State Bank of India by the security personnel on Friday, while one of the robbers was overpowered.

A robbery was foiled at the Kahnor village branch of the State Bank of India by the security personnel on Friday, while one of the robbers was overpowered.

Three motorcycle-borne youths struck at the bank in broad daylight and opened fire. Security personnel Rajesh and Naresh have sustained bullet injuries.

The robber overpowered has been identified as Sandeep alias Bunty, a resident of Baland village of the district. His accomplices, who managed to slip away, have been identified as Parminder and Manjit, both residents of Baland village here.

Later, SP Rajesh Duggal and DSP Anil Kumar Yadav reached the spot.

As per details, the accused came around noon and one of them sneaked inside the bank. As the security personnel got suspicious, they closed the gate of bank. The accused then opened fire at them.

Hearing the gunshots, residents of Kahnor village assembled outside the bank and overpowered one of the accused.

Police said that special teams have been dispatched for nab the remaining two accused, after registering an attempt to murder case against them.
