Though Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been spending amount huge money in Malwa region for developing schools and universities, one of its high school in Doaba region has been crying for financial assistance and attention.
SGPC has an annual budget of more than Rs500 crore.
Baba Makhan Shah Public High School situated in Tanda RamSahaye village in Mukerian sub-division of Hoshiarpur district, which is being run by SGPC for the past 13 years, has not seen a permanent principal and a school management committee.
According to the information available, teachers and other staff members of the school have been working without pay for the past 12 months.
The school's responsibility was handed over to SGPC in 1999. At that time there were around 850 students and 47 teachers in the school, but now the number has reduced to 145 students and 6 teachers.
In 2009 around six rooms were declared unsafe by Public Works Department, which could endanger the lives of students playing in the school ground.
A school official said: "When the school was started in late 80's, it was known to be one of the best schools of the region, but due to the continuous ignorance and lack of interest by SGPC it is now on the verge of closure.

{{/usCountry}}Officials said SGPC had never visited the school for inspection and it had never taken notice of the long pending demands of teachers to constitute a permanent school management committee and a school principal.
A grant of Rs33 lakh was sanctioned to the school for developing classrooms and other things in 2010, but failed due to the absence of decision makers in school.
While talking to Hindustan Times, Mukerian SGPC member Jathedar Ravinder Singh Chakk showed seriousness on appalling condition of the school and accepted that due to the ignorance by the higher officials of SGPC, parents have not been sending their wards to the school.
He said: "In a meeting which was held recently in this regard with SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has assured all types of assistance to the school.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the committee had taken up the matter seriously and would soon appoint permanent school management committee and principal for the school.
