Jaswinder Singh was demoted after he made a mistake during the evening prayers recently.

Confirming this, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said, "We have suspended granthi Amarjit Singh. He should have alerted Jaswinder Singh when the mistake was made."

As Amarjit Singh was also found in the wrong, he was suspended, said Makkar.

Makkar also criticised Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit saying the Congress was in the habit of interfering in Sikh affairs.

He said, "Sheila has no business telling chief minister Parkash Singh Badal not to interfere in the Sikh affairs in Delhi. She should know that if an issue related to Sikhs is raised anywhere, the SGPC and Badal have the right to intervene."

Makkar alleged that Dikshit was trying to delay the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee polls.
