Taking a serious note of the ruckus created by a BJP worker after policemen were allegedly found drinking alcohol on the premises of the Satnampura police station on Monday night, Kapurthala senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Tuesday suspended station house officer (SHO) Joginder Pal and head constables Sarwan Singh and Harbhajan Singh for negligence of duty.
The police have arrested the BJP worker, Gurdeep Singh Deepa, who is husband of councillor Kuljeet Kaur, for creating ruckus in the police station and assaulting a policeman after registering a first information report (FIR) against him.
The incident took place on Monday night when the complainant Resham Singh and Gurdeep Deepa allehedly found accused Laadi along and his friends drinking alcohol with policemen in the police station.
As per the information, Resham Singh had lodged a complaint against Laadi, a resident of Kanha Dhesian village near Goraya, accusing him of fraud of `80,000. The police had called the two parties to the police station on Tuesday for questioning.
Deepa alleged that when he went to SHO Joginder Pal who was sitting in an adjacent room to complaint about the matter, he (SHO) shocking said it was a no great deal if they were drinking on the premises of the police station.
He said he has made the video of the incident involving drinking of alcohol in the room and the constable concerned was in uniform at that time. Deepa along with 400-odd residents held a demonstration against the police administration for half an hour. The FIR registered against Deepa says that when constable Pardeep Kumar tried to sort out the matter between him (Deepa) and policemen present in the room where they were allegedly drinking, the BJP worker manhandled him and held him from his collar.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, Deepa alleged that he tried to present what exactly happened in the police station but sadly he himself became an accused.
“Pardeep Kumar was not there in the police station. He is levelling false allegations against me. The media was there and they know whether I manhandled any police personnel or not,” he said.
Kapurthala SSP Ashish Chaudhary said they have suspended the two head constables for drinking alcohol on the police station premises and the SHO for permitting them to consume liquor.
Traffic blocked as BJP worker is held
Hundreds of BJP supporters on Tuesday blocked traffic on national highway-1 to demonstrate against the arrest of BJP worker Gurdeep Singh Deepa on the charges of assaulting policeman on Monday night.
Nearly 200 people led by Gurdeep’s wife and municipal corporation councillor Kuljeet Kaur sat on a dharna on the highway, blocking traffic on both sides for more than half an hour and vandalised some vehicles.
