In a display of high-handedness, a police inspector slapped a tractor-trailer driver in full public view for not letting his vehicle pass in Mullanpur Dakha on Tuesday morning. After the incident, locals blocked the main road for two hours, shouting slogans against police and demanding action against the cop.
Later, Rakba village sarpanch Joginder Singh intervened and disposed of the matter amicably. However, commuters were a harried lot due to the two-hour protest.
Gagandeep Singh alias Gagna of Rakba village was visiting Mullanpur to sell fodder. When he was returning home, Sidhwan Bet station house officer Lovedeep Singh who was travelling in a police vehicle signalled at him to let him pass.
The 22-year-old Gagandeep said the inspector was honking continuously. As the road near Mullanpur main roundabout was broken, it took some time to get his tractor-trolley aside. Meanwhile, the inspector overtook the vehicle that resulted in a scratch on the cop’s vehicle.
Furious over it, the inspector alighted from his vehicle and slapped him thrice in full public view and also abused him.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, inspector Lovedeep refuted the allegations. He added that he was trying to overtake the tralier driver, who was driving recklessly. In an attempt to overtake, his vehicle got scratches when it collided with the other vehicle.
