Shruti Singh is MC commissioner

With Shruti Singh, a 2004-batch IAS officer, getting transferred to the city, Ludhiana has got its first woman municipal corporation (MC) commissioner.

With Shruti Singh, a 2004-batch IAS officer, getting transferred to the city, Ludhiana has got its first woman municipal corporation (MC) commissioner.

She will also be chairman of Ludhiana Improvement Trust in addition to being the MC commissioner and chief administrator of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA).

Born in 1982, Shruti has served as the deputy commissioner in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Jalandhar. Her last posting was as special secretary finance, and health and family welfare, besides director, lotteries

Wife of Ludhiana rural senior superintendent of policr (SSP) Ashish Chaudhary, Singh is likely to join office in the coming week.

Singh will replace Rahul Tewari, who has now been appointed as special principal secretary to Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Having served the city as deputy commissioner for more than three years, Tewari was transferred to MC as its commissioner in September 2013.

The outgoing MC commissioner could not hold back his emotions as he spoke about his four years in Ludhiana.

"My posting in Ludhiana as deputy commissioner and corporation commissioner will always remain a special part of my services, which came as a challenge, demanded diligence and gave me immense gratification as an official," Tewari said, while biding adieu to the city.

Referring to the special bond that he shared with people while sitting on two most important chairs of Ludhiana, Tewari said, "It was the close public connect that enabled me to get to know their problems in depth and address them with 100% commitment."
