Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Friday, batted for the setting up of a a special cell for non-resident Indians (NRIs) to address their grievances and facilitate them to become active partners in the progress of the state.
Sidhu was here to attend the Jat Expo, an exhibition of agricultural machinery, organised by the NRI brothers Ranbir Singh Tut and Ranjit Singh Tut.
“It is the need of the hour to elicit maximum participation of the NRIs in the process of development of the state and this could be only possible if we facilitate them and redress all their concerns under one roof,” Sidhu said.
Meanwhile, praising efforts of NRI Tut brothers for organising this fair, Sidhu said that this shows the concern of the NRIs for the welfare of the farming community. “Such fairs immensely benefit the farmers to enhance their profit and make agriculture a profitable venture,” he added.
Launching a scathing attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for its “pol khol” campaign, Sidhu said that the Akalis have no moral right to hold ‘pol khol’ rallies as people have already rejected them.
“With which face they are organising such rallies when the people have already shown them the door in three major elections including 2017 assembly elections, Gurdaspur bypolls and MC polls in three cities,” he said.
