A 20-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at Desumalkana village in Sirsa district on Sunday night, police said.

According to available information, Bogaram (20) was having a love affair with a girl of the same village for quite some time. Recently, a love letter was found in his pocket and the matter was referred to the village panchayat.

The panchayat settled the issue by ordering Bogaram to stop strolling around the girl's house and stop sitting at the grocery shop where he usually sat to see the girl.

A driver by profession, Bogaram was apparently upset after these restrictions were imposed by the village panchayat.

On Sunday night, when other family members were sleeping, Bogaram hanged himself. He was found hanging on Monday morning when the family woke up.

The police registered a case in this connection and started investigations. The deceased's body had been handed over to his family after the post-mortem.

According to some villagers, the deceased wanted to marry the girl but both the families were not willing. The deceased and the girl belonged to Dalit families.
