Around two dozen people allegedly assaulted two sisters and their uncle with sticks while they were on their way to court for the hearing of their brother’s suicide near Basti Jodhewal Chowk on Saturday.
One of the assailants is accused of abetting the suicide. On the other hand, the accused have also filed a counter complaint against the sisters and their uncle of launching attack on them. The police are yet to register a case.
In their complaint to police, the victims, Jaina and Sapoora, said their brother Saddam Husain had committed suicide in Ludhiana central jail on April 24, 2013, following which Laddi of Chava Nedi village of Gurdaspur, was booked for abetting the suicide. The case is sub judice.
Since then, Laddi had been threatening them to withdraw the case. They alleged that he had also kidnapped their four-year-old brother from their house on January 13. But he was later recovered by the police. A case of kidnapping was also registered.
They added that the accused had threatened them against appearing in the hearing on Saturday. However, they left for the court with their uncle, Makkhan. On the way, at least two dozen men tried to intercept them at Samrala Chowk, but they managed to thwart their attempt. But as they reached near Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, the men forced them to stop and opened attack with sticks, leaving them injured.

{{/usCountry}}The sisters alleged that even though the entire incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed at a petrol pump near the spot, when they visited Salem Tabri police station, ASI Kuldeep Singh was reluctant to register a case.
Jaina alleged that the accused even threatened them at the police station, adding that their uncle had been seriously injured and was in a critical state.
When contacted, Salem Tabri SHO inspector Maninder Bedi said they were looking into the counter complaints to register a case.
