Six held for 'smuggling' liquor, narcotics

Extra vigil maintained by police to prevent smuggling of narcotics, habit-forming medicines and illicit liquor due to coming municipal corporation elections have borne fruit as six persons have been arrested in the last 24 hours. A huge quantity of drugs and illicit liquor has been seized from these accused, even as one suspect managed to flee.

A huge quantity of drugs and illicit liquor has been seized from these accused, even as one suspect managed to flee.

Divison number 1 police arrested Sandeep Kumar of Patiala on Monday and allegedly seized sedative pills worth Rs1.20 lakh along with 2,000 capsules and 80 bottles of cough syrups from him.
SHO Surinder Mohan said that the accused had admitted that he had procured the sedatives from Pindi Street, a wholesale market for medicines.

The accused allegedly confessed that he sold the sedatives in Patiala, mostly to school and college students.

Division number 4 police arrested a youth Kuldip Thapa of New Kundanpuri and allegedly seized about 60gm charas from his possession on Monday.

Haibowal police arrested a man and seized about 20 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession on Monday. According to SHO Satinderpal Singh, the accused was identified as Ramesh Kumar of Balloke village.

According to incharge sub-inspector Harbans Singh, police barricades were set up at Bhattiyan on Tuesday morning following a tip-off. Police hailed a car driver, heading towards Bhattiyan, to stop but he tried to flee.

As the car hit the barricades, police arrested Pawan Kumar alias Pamma and Raj Kumar alias Raju of Prem Nagar of Field Ganj area from the vehicle and seized the illicit liquor.
SI Harbans Singh said many cases of illicit liquor have been registered against Pawan at different police stations.

In another case, the cell arrested Deepak Kumar of Gyaspura and seized 10 boxes of illicit liquor. An accused Gagandeep Singh of Jammu colony managed to flee. The accused were carrying liquor in a three-wheeler when they were intercepted. A case has been registered against both of them.
