The sixth edition of unified games of Pingalwara was held at Manawala complex on Saturday, where notable actors Pawan Malhotra and Sudesh Lehri and filmmaker Harjit Singh were also present.
More than 200 differently-abled children participated in track and field events.
“The event is organised every year for the Pingalwara inmates, where we organise competitions between special children and normal children. These games are organised to give a sense of achievement among specially and differently-abled children,” said Col Darshan Singh Bawa, Pingalwara administrator.
“We also aim to sensitise normal children and people about special needs of differently-abled people and also to remove inferiority complex among children with special needs,” he added.
Dr Inderjit Kaur, president of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, said, “Such events will inspire city residents about the special needs of the children. The basic idea behind pushing them into sporting events is not only to promote physical activity, but also to imbibe the spirit of team effort and discipline into them.”
The sporting events included tug of war, 100 and 400 metre race and other track events.

{{/usCountry}}Chandar Shekhar Kohli, a non-residential Indian (NRI) from Dubai, along with his NRI group from the US, has organised the unified games in associated with Pingalwara. The inaugural games were organised by him in 2009.
“It’s a very popular annual event that we host for our special children to give them a sense of achievement and to bring smiles on their faces, which was a dream of Bhgat Puran Singh,” said Bawa.
