The police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang involved in 35 incidents of theft and snatching, with the arrest of four persons. While two accused are at large.
Those arrested have been identified as Deepa, Raj Kumar, Jagjeet and Sunny, while Aakash and Bobby are on the run. Police said all accused were aged between 18 and 20.
A total of 17 mobile phones and seven gas cylinders were recovered from the accused, who were friends and resided in neighbouring areas, the police said.
A case has been registered against the six accused at Salem Tabri police station under section 380 (theft in dwelling), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Salem Tabri station house officer (SHO) Kewal Krishan said the accused used to target migrants and snatched their mobile phones.
He claimed that they were hoping to recover more articles after arrest of other gang members, adding that the arrested accused confessed that they were involved in 35 incidents of snatching and theft.
