The accused have been identified as Tarsem Singh alias Judge (40) of Mohalla Gobindgard and Sarabjit Singh (24) of Jain Colony of Shimlapuri.

The police recovered eight pairs of earrings and 2,500 sedative pills from their possession. A case under sections 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

Giving details about the arrest, Mukhtiar Singh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Atam Park, said the sleuths of Shimlapuri police station set up a checkpoint on Gill road near Sidhwan Canal Bridge. Meanwhile, the accused passed through the area on a motorcycle. When the police stopped and frisked them, they recovered sedative pills from their possession. On questioning, the accused admitted that they were involved in several snatching cases, the ACP claimed.

He said the accused were drug addicts and took to crime to meet their need for drugs. “They had snatched gold earrings of a woman, Charanjit Kaur, in Janta Nagar on June 19. An FIR was registered in Shimlapuri police station in this context,” he added.

The police are investigating to know about past criminal record of the accused, the SHO said.
