Snowfall and rain continued to disrupt life in the upper reaches of the Kullu valley for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday with Rohtang Pass, Solang Nullah, Marhi and Palchan again receiving fresh snowfall.
Rohtang Pass was reported to be under 5 feet of snow while the Solang ski slopes were under two and a half feet of snow. Marhi, Kothi, Gulaba, Rahala Fall, Kaniyal Hills, Bhanara and Shaleen villages also experienced a fresh spell of snow.
There was heavy snowfall in the Kunzum, Baralacha La, Lachlangla and Tanglangla passé, preventing the Border Roads Organisation from launching a snow clearance operation on the Manali-Leh border road.
Due to the heavy snow and rain, traffic was disrupted on the stretch between Rangri and the local police station the Kullu-Manali NH-21. Commuters and tourists visiting the town had a tough time negotiating the heavy traffic. Neera, a tourist from Delhi, said adequate men and machines should always be available on NH-21 to ensure the traffic was not disrupted.
Meanwhile, incessant rain triggered a heavy landslide in the area located between the Shiv Ganga spring and Kalath village, posing a grave risk to commuters.
